Don’t miss your chance to win twice… by placing the highest bid on your favorite skateboard deck and by helping to drive the fundraising efforts that will help create a public skateboard park in Sturgeon Bay.
There are only a few days left to help support the local Door County skaters’ campaign efforts by bidding on the original skateboard art in this unique Glas Coffeehouse exhibit. Over twenty skateboard decks and long boards, all hand-painted and donated by local artists, are on display at Glas, the Green Coffee House, 67 W. Maple Street on Sturgeon Bay’s west side.
According to Matt Young, organizer of the event, the show has been hugely successful with the most recent sale Cal Lautenbach‘s board, “Stylin Under the Deep Blue Sea” selling outright for $250. “We have already sold five of the decks at the ‘Buy it Now’ price and bidding is increasing on the others.”
The show and the bidding will close at 7 pm on Friday, January 27. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative invites everyone to join them from 5 – 7 pm to see the display, check bidding and be on hand for the final count down.
“This is a great opportunity for local businesses and individuals to support a community project and get a cool piece of artwork at the same time,” says Young.
The evening will also include live music beginning at 6:30 pm with Jeanne Kuhns and Lost Mothra.
All money raised through the auction will help fund the construction of a public skatepark to be located next to the West Side Ball Field on Madison Avenue. The Sturgeon Bay Skatepark Initiative is a group of skaters, parents and businesses that have teamed up with the Sturgeon Bay Park and Recreation Department to create a safe, public place for skateboarders of all levels to recreate. BMX bikes will be welcome at the new skate park.
